Frequently Asked Questions

Questions we’re asked most often. If yours isn’t here, call (618) 659-0100 or text (618) 620-1447 — we’d rather answer it than have you guess.

Do you offer group Pilates classes, or only private sessions?

Both. We run classical Pilates equipment classes capped at six clients, alongside privates and duets, plus mat and barre. We’re the only studio in Edwardsville offering Pilates and barre together on a full weekly schedule.

What equipment do you have?

Reformers, towers, two Cadillacs, six Wunda chairs and a ladder barrel, along with spine correctors and the smaller apparatus developed for the classical method — plus full mat work. Each piece does something the others can’t: the reformer for full-body work on a moving carriage, the tower for spring-assisted spinal and shoulder work, the chair for standing strength and balance.

Is this the same as reformer Pilates?

Not quite. We teach the complete classical method, which includes the reformer but also the tower, chair and mat work, taught in a specific order. The reformer is one piece of a larger system rather than the whole thing. Our mixed equipment classes work on reformer and tower, and we also run dedicated chair and jumpboard classes.

I’ve never done Pilates. Where should I start?

Most beginners start with one private session plus two classes, so a teacher can show you the equipment one-to-one before you join a group. If you’d rather begin somewhere more familiar, barre needs no equipment knowledge at all. Call (618) 659-0100 and we’ll help you choose.

Do you work with injuries, scoliosis or back pain?

Yes. We regularly work with scoliosis, post-surgical recovery and chronic back pain. Spring-based apparatus is well suited to this because a spring can assist a movement as well as resist it, which means we can meet a body where it currently is. We ask about your history at every session, because it changes what we do.

Do you work with pregnant and postpartum clients?

Yes. We teach prenatal and postnatal Pilates, modified session by session as your body changes, and we run a Mommy & Me barre class for early postpartum clients who’d rather not arrange childcare to exercise. See our prenatal and postnatal page for details.

How are your teachers trained?

Every teacher here is comprehensively trained in the classical method — the whole system, mat and apparatus, rather than a certification on a single machine. We’re also a Host Advisor studio for The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado, which means we train and mentor teachers through certification ourselves.

Do you offer barre?

Yes — barre, cardio barre and barre strength, built on the same classical principles of alignment and control. We’re the only studio in Edwardsville offering barre. Cardio barre is worth knowing about if you want your heart rate up without high-impact movement.

Do you offer Pilates teacher training?

Yes. We’re a Host Advisor studio for The Pilates Center, Boulder, offering comprehensive classical certification in the Edwardsville and greater St. Louis area. See our teacher training page.

How much does it cost to start?

New clients start with one of these: three Pilates equipment classes for $60, one private session plus two equipment classes for $115, three private sessions for $210, three barre or mat classes for $40, or a month of unlimited barre for $99. Membership pricing is on the equipment and barre class pages.

How big are your classes?

Pilates equipment classes are capped at six clients. That cap is deliberate — it’s the number at which a teacher can still watch every person and adjust springs for each body. Barre and mat classes are capped at 15, so you get the energy of a group without getting lost in it.

Still deciding between Pilates, barre and HIIT?

We’ve written an honest comparison of Pilates, barre and HIIT — what each one does, and who each is genuinely right for.
